Mr. Middleton working

Nick Middleton spent most of his life in Blue River, so the name New Castle was nothing new to him. It is funny how one thing would lead to another and cause him to be a part of the very staff he played against in high school.

Middleton went to Blue River High School and played baseball his whole time there. ¨Baseball has bonded my family,¨ said Middleton who actually coaches baseball today. An avid Cincinnati Reds fan, He even said that his summers are very ¨busy¨ because of baseball and that both of his sons play the sport.

After he graduated, Middleton went to Ball State University to become a teacher. He also managed the basketball team there for three years and faced UCLA at Minnesota.

Then Middleton got his graduate and undergraduate and went on to teach at Blue River and Muncie for a combined total of 16 years. He was a 4th, 5th, and 6th grade teacher for 8 years, and an assistant principal for another 8 years. After that he became the principal for Riley Elementary School, and worked there for 5 years. Soon he would get a job at New Castle High School when the position opened up.

¨I love it, you guys have such a strong tradition here,¨ said Middleton when describing how New Castle High School has been so far. Middleton’s new job includes evaluating teachers, discipline, attendance, and works with upperclassmen. ¨I was very intimidated because you guys would always beat us in sports,¨ said Middleton when expressing his thoughts on New Castle before joining the staff.

Middleton  said that all the administrators are ¨similar,¨ ¨approachable,¨ and ¨are here for the students¨ when asked if students should know anything about him before actually meeting him. He also said that they all ¨want a great environment.¨

Middleton also gave some advice to students, he said, ¨Enjoy this time of your lives but always remember to do the right thing.¨

It would seem that Middleton will be great for New Castle High School. I hope everyone wishes him a warm welcome.
