New Castle’s show choir, Red Hot Blues (RHB), have started there competition season for this year. Red Hot Blues have been practicing really hard this year to learn 7 songs and 6 dances, to try and qualify for state. If you go to an Red Hot Blues contest you will hear the songs; “Secret Agent Man”, “Smooth Operator”, “Writings on the Wall”, “American Women”, “These Boots are Made for Walking”, “Dude Looks Like a Lady”, and “Feel it Still”. Along with an outfit change.

Red Hot Blues’ theme this year is secret agents/spies. Red Hot Blues came in second at Pendleton Heights High school at their first competition of the season. By preforming early in the afternoon and then making it to the night show at 7:30 PM. With competitions going well, Red Hot Blues only have 2 competitions left before qualifying for state.

According to Hailey O’Hara, “The biggest differences from this year to last is the energy and a lot of the directing and dedication. I say that people don’t put in as much effort as they probably should. I agree that we are getting better, but I’d say we’re only giving about 60% when we should be giving 100%. I don’t think it’s about to be in but I’d say we could give a little more effort wise.” So with the differences this year it’s been harder on this group but they are working to get better and to work through the changes.

“My favorite thing about Red Hot Blues is probably the adrenaline rush I get before before I’m about to go on stage for a competition. I also love all my Red Hot Blue friends,” said  O’Hara. Everyone has something of their own that they love when they’re performing or when they’re practicing.

Good luck to Red Hot Blues to the rest of your season. Sing loud and dance proud!
