New Castle High School has a team of wonderful gymnasts. Gymnastics is the practice of athletic exercises for the development of the body, especially those exercises performed with apparatus such as rings, pommel horse, bars, and balance beam.

Gymnastics is an amazing sport because it is very athletic and takes lots of strength, while still managing to look phenomenally beautiful.   They love what they do and they are very proud of it.

The Varsity team is coached by Tina Wood. The assistant coach is Theresa Thornburg.

Freshman JV member Taylor Snell is very talented at what she does. She was in gymnastics when she was younger but had to quit because of middle school cheerleading. She managed to do it again in high school and is very happy she did.

Snell said, “It has benefited me by having friends and I have meant many new people that have made my life much better.” Snell’s best score in an 8.55 on vault.

Senior Kierstyn Cochran said, “The main person who got to me to join the gymnastics team was my sister. She was a senior when it was my first year on the team. The bond I have with my coaches has kept me on the team because I want to make them proud. It feels amazing to be out there getting to do what I love and enjoy. I believe the best score I’ve ever received was a 9.55 on vault.”

Although the season’s final home meet was last week, students and fans can check out the team next year!
