The NCHS Baseball Team with Future MLB Stars

Baseball season is coming up and the NCHS baseball team is very excited to get back into it. Both JV and Varsity have amazing baseball players that are very determined and committed to the sport.

What’s Going On With the Baseball Team?

There are 3 coaches for this year. Head Coach Brad Pearson, who is in his first season as head coach, Coach Kellog, and Coach Smith. One of the players, Blake McKown, a junior, says, “We are set up to be a really good team this year. We have lots of fun on our team”. They play their games at the baseball diamonds near Sunnyside. Their first game is on April 1st at Muncie Central, and the first home game is on April 3rd against conference rival Pendleton Heights. The baseball team plays at Sunnyside Park, which is across from Sunnyside Elementary School. 

Last Year’s Player Hitting and Plate Appearance

The NCHS’s Baseball team has a great number of young potential MLB stars with pretty good stats. Player Corbin Malott had a batting average of .328 and a plate appearance of 73. Another player, Nicholas Besecker had an average of .321 and a plate appearance of 65. Dakota Durick has an average of .291 and an appearance of 101. Jacob Lucas had a batting average .250 and a plate appearance of 25. Blake McKown had an average of .286 and a plate appearance of 8. Brandon Matney had an average of .125 and an appearance of 20.

There’s also a great number of pitchers that have amazing potential. Senior Nicholas Besecker has three wins and five losses. Sophomore Corbin Malott has two wins and two losses. Dakota Durick has one win and zero losses. 

“We have a lot of fun and even did yoga the other day” is a quote from Corbin Malott. The NCHS baseball team is full of future MLB stars with tons of potential and lots of fun.
